Napster to Go - Is it Really a Great Deal?

Chances are - if you watched the ads during last week’s superbowl - that you wondered what’s up with Napster’s new concept termed Napster to Go. On the surface, it’s an offer almost too good: Pay 15$ and load up your iPod with an infinite number of songs from their library of over one million songs, a real steal compared to the $1 a pop pricetag for songs purchased from Apple’s iTunes website.

So, is it really a great deal? I looked into it, and just as I was digging deeper, I came across an article by Eliot Van Buskirk (Technology editor for MP3.com). He’s analyzed the same question, and posted his results on Cnet.com. Here’s the fineprint in a nutshell: [a] unless you fork over the 15$ Napster subscription fee every month, your songs will not play at all; [b] to make use of the service, you’ll need an MP3 player with a built-in clock (only available on select players released after November 2004).
