Related to the previous post on making money from your website - if you already have invested your resources in building a great site with valuable content, then you might as well optimize your site to enjoy a decent search engine ranking.

While browsing various online search engine optimization (SEO) articles, I came across Vaughn’s one-pagers, compiling a list of google ranking factors.

Is it important for you? I would argue that it is fairly difficult to achieve top ranking in any search engine if your site deals with very common topics. It’s just too much competition from website owners that are more motivated to get a higher ranking. However, if your website deals with unique content, you will have a natural edge and hence, a little SEO will make a huge difference.

In the end, SEO only gets your site to the top of a Google search query - it is great content on your site that keeps visitors engaged and returning for more.
